LAPPEENRANNAN-LAHDEN TEKNILLINEN YLIOPISTO LUT

Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology (LUT University) is the leading educator of energy sector professionals in Finland. The LUT Nuclear Engineering Laboratory has been building and operating nuclear safety related thermal hydraulics facilities since 1974. Large–scale nuclear safety experiments in LUT cover VVER and PWR reactor system thermal-hydraulics (the REWET facility series, and the PACTEL and PWR-PACTEL facilities), BWR containment thermal-hydraulics and dynamics (the PPOOLEX facility), and core catchers for severe accident management. Behaviour of Small Modular Reactors will be studied with the new MOTEL test facility.

Role in the project

LUT assumes the responsibility for leading WP4 that designs, conducts and evaluates a series of tests to characterise the behaviour of open-loop naturally circulating cooling systems, using the LUT’s PASI test facility for Containment Wall Condenser.
